OH NO! It's the Helpful Hound.....
...And the days of the week.

As a teacher I was attracted to this witty and vibrant book by its
rhymes, its descriptive illustrations, and by its inclusive view of
ethnicities within one family. However,I was surprised by how
powerfully the children would identify with and love Hobbster
the Hound. I read the book to my class of six and seven year old
boys and girls. They lapped it up. They identified with poor old
Hobbster, with his big loving heart. They identified with his
struggles to help those he loves, and his failures. They loved
the lesson that if you keep on trying you will succeed.
It's easy for teachers to develop extension lessons from this
book. I used a teddy-dog that only barely looked like Hobbster
yet all the children were thrilled by having Hobbster in the
classroom. They loved interacting with him.
